Plantation Weddings — Charm of the South

September 13th, 2012 - By Leah W.

Maybe it’s due to Blake Lively’sPlantation Wedding Venues

recent nuptials or maybe it’s my southern roots, but I have always been drawn to the idea of a plantation wedding.

There is something amazing about knowing that the surrounding walls have stood tall for hundreds of years.

There is safety knowing that, for centuries, happy couples have lived and thrived on this very same ground.

Aside from the sentimental factor, plantations offer acres of gorgeous land and luxurious homes ideal for a ceremony or wedding reception.

Here are some great options for southern plantation wedding venues:

Desert Plantation

Woodville, Mississippi

Desert Plantation is located on 1000 acres in the charming countryside along the edge of the Tunica Hills (only 50 miles from Baton Rouge).

This historic setting is ideal for small quaint weddings, corporate retreats, and travel groups.

Desert Plantation also offers bed and breakfast accommodations for up to eleven guests.

Lone Star Mansion

Burleson, Texas

Texas is home to one of the country’s most luxurious plantation style home.

Located on eighteen private acres of rolling hills, the 10,000 square foot Lone Star Mansion has all the warm and inviting touches as a small intimate space.

Intense attention to detail makes this Texas home the perfect location for romantic getaways, southern vacations and, of course, wedding ceremonies and receptions.

As guests enter through a private gate they first lay eyes on a large ornate white gazebo perched on the edge of a pond which is home to several swans.

Guests then follow a winding tree-lined driveway that leads to the stately front lawn of the plantation home.

The home sits upon a hilltop overlooking green pastures and huge sweeping trees.

The inside of the Mansion has perfect accommodations for an elegant bride.

The double winding staircase and stunning chandlers provide brides an ideal location for a breathtaking grand entrance.

The Lone Star Mansion has not forgotten about the groom, the Mansion includes a “Man Cave” complete with bar, pool table, sauna, steam room, gym and a 73 inch surround sound home theater system.

Your only problem may be getting the groomsmen out of the suite for the wedding!

The large Crystal Ballroom, complete with chandeliers, full size catering kitchen, and bar are designed to accommodate weddings, receptions, and corporate events.

While only 40 minutes outside of Dallas, Lone Star Mansion provides guests the privacy and opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Mathews Manor

Springville, Alabama

Centrally located between Chattanooga, Birmingham and Atlanta, Winston Place provides the ideal location for a bride and groom seeking a gorgeous plantation venue.

On the National Register of Historical Places, this home has an impressive wrap-around veranda, both upstairs and down.

Winston Place, with its impressive lavishness, is one of Alabama’s finest examples of a historic home built for open air living.

Winston Place is the perfect place not only for weddings and receptions, but also corporate events and family celebrations.

This Alabama estate offers two separate reception sites, large garden lawns, an intimate dining room, and a large game room.

Weather its Alabama, Mississippi, or Texas, a southern plantation wedding provides the backdrop for a perfect day and an amazing way to begin your lives together.

Simple Traditions for a Southern Wedding

April 4th, 2012 - By

Elegance… Charm…Southern Wedding Ideas & InspirationsShabby Chic… Intimate… Lovely… and traditional are all words that come to mind while planning a southern wedding.

But of all those characteristics, the most important one is ‘tradition‘.

When a couple is having a southern wedding, tradition is key and Estate Weddings and Events have decided to list just a few traditions of a southern wedding in celebration of the newly added estates in Alabama, Mississippi, and North Carolina.

Take a look at these simple traditions…

1. Groom’s Cake:

Intended as a gift from the bride to the groom.

They are unlike traditional wedding cakes and more suited to the groom’s personality.

2. Bridal Hat and Gloves:

Typically worn by southern belles demonstrating their unique charm and class.

If a wedding is held outside, which most are, then a hat and gloves protects the brides skin.

3. Parasols:

The south can get particularly hot in the summer, while most weddings are held in the summer and outside a parasol is a perfect way to provide shade.

4. Southern-themed Drinks:

Drinks that include bourbon or whiskey (Non-Alcoholic: lemonade or sweet-tea) are typical drinks served at a southern wedding.

5. Serving Southern Food:

7. Hanky:

Used for the emotional parts of the ceremony.

8. Monogrammed Linens With Your Initials:

The couple and those in the wedding party all get their linens monogrammed.

9. Jumping Over a Broom:

Is believed to bring the bride and groom ‘good luck’.

10. Bright Colors:

As mentioned earlier, weddings tend to be during the summer and outside and therefore weddings are brightly lite with the color themed the couple have chosen for the wedding to suit the brightly colored season.
