We know how it goes: the weather gets cooler, your e-mails pile up, just one more brownie…and suddenly you haven’t spoken to your gals in weeks. Shake off those winter blues and get ready for your girls weekend getaway!
We’re ready to help you plan the most rejuvenating and fun weekend you can imagine, so instead of dreaming of a long forgotten summer you can look forward to a fabulous escape with the girls!
Where to Go:
“Go west young (wo)man, go west!” When it comes to finding the perfect place for a girls getaway, Horace Greeley had it all figured out. While sure, there are countless blogs praising our beloved winter wonderlands, there’s nothing better than sun kisses, seaside breezes, and wine tasting. Pack your bags ladies and get ready for a retreat in the land of endless summer, haute Haciendas, and vast vineyards.
Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley (San Diego), California is exquisitely tailored for a weekend retreat with the gals, plus I guarantee you’ll want to go back with your man as soon as you can. Tucked away in the rolling hills of Carmel Valley, historic Holman Ranch is complete with charming gardens and stunning mountain views, plus it’s just minutes away from Southern California’s best beaches. The property has been lively and prosperous since its establishment in 1928 so there’s a great history of quality at the ranch. Plus, because the staff is accustomed to holding large-scale events and entertaining corporate groups, I guarantee your small group of girls will be treated with the upmost service and attention.
What to Do:
When planning the weekend you want to make sure there are tons of activities to draw you away from checking your e-mails or scrolling through your phone because let’s be honest, there are only so many things to chat about with the girls! Holman Ranch is more than just a beautiful estate because they specialize in daytime activities. They offer spa treatments, wine tastings, vineyard tours, picnics, high tea, shopping, surfing, skeet shooting, cooking classes, golf, racing school, and even archery! I love Holman Ranch because they really offer something for every group of girls; whether you love the great outdoors or can’t live without your mani/pedis.
Holman Ranch also has stables, olive groves, and overnight guest rooms in their lavishly restored stone hacienda. Plus, their tasting room is truly impressive. They have a choice of five varietals including full-bodies Pinot Noirs, light and fruity Pinot Gris, lightly oaked Chardonnay, subtle and crisp Sauvignon Blanc, and my favorite, a light, crisp, dry Rosé of Pinot Noir. There’s nothing better than good wine in a beautiful setting with great company… really, who could ask for more?
Another great aspect of Holman Ranch is that you don’t have to love wine to love their tasting room! Their olive garden boasts the most exquisite hand-harvested, cold pressed, extra-virgin olive oil in the country. Produced from the fruits of their 100 Tuscan varietal olive trees, olive oil tastings can be just as fun and interesting as a good ol’ wine tour.
How to Look Effortlessly Fabulous:
Kate Spade’s new brand “Saturday” is made for dreamy ladies trips like these. My favorite item from Saturday is their customizable weekender bag. I love how you can personalize, monogram, and create cool color combos with the canvas bag, and I love the zippered shoe compartment even more! The bag even has a removable cell phone case…although where you’re going, I doubt you’ll ever remove your phone from the bag!
Being with the girls is a great time to wind down all you usually make up. Take this time to detox your skin and let it breathe, plus everyone knows makeup and hiking are never a good combo! You’ll be amazed at the wonders sea air has on your skin and the way you feel after soaking in some Vitamin D.
Remember not to sacrifice your skin’s health by thinking you can skimp on those SPF’s usually found in your foundation. I love this perfecting lotion full of antioxidants, hyper pigmentation inhibitors and of course, SPF 30 by PCA Skin featured on OliviaPalermo.com. It restores your skin while protecting you from harmful rays.
If you’re worried about going bare (with your face, that is!) well, this is your weekend to dress like a rockstar. Weekend trips are the perfect time to bust out your favorite shades or hat and call it a day! Dark Ray Ban aviators are always a great go-to, but if you want to be a little more edgy, try these “Sunday Somewhere” shades by Matahari. They’re definitely the hottest sunglasses on the market right now!
As far as sun hats go, Melissa Odabash, always wins in my book! These are just perfect for your weekend plans:
Since you’ll be sporting a great hat, this is a perfect time to give your hair a break too and opt for some dry shampoo. Anyways, I think vacays always call for dry shampoo! Who wants to blow-dry where there is so much fun to be had? I’ve had a bit of trouble finding the right dry shampoo for my dark hair so after many trial and error I’ve finally found the perfect one that won’t give me skunk stripes. Alterna Cleanse Extend Translucent Dry Shampoo is amazing for us dark hair gals and does the trick for blondies too!
Brooks Brothers’ spring line for 2014 will give you a great sneak peek of what to wear to wine tastings and dinners with your gal pals. I love Brooks Brothers because they are sophisticated yet modern and their clothes can be paired with trendier items (like the sunglasses above) for a more youthful look.
I’ve fallen in love with this wine-tasting-ready outfits by Brooks Brothers:
Looking and feeling glamorous is the key to a wonderful girls weekend getaway. Holman Ranch offers all the amenities and activities a girl could ask for and all you have to do is bring the crew! So crank away at work today because your getaway is on the horizon.. and you deserve it!
What activity would you want to do most at Holman Ranch? What item could you not live without on a getaway weekend?
