Charlottesville Wedding at Ash Lawn Highland

This Gorgeous Charlottesville, Virginia wedding was first featured on Style Me pretty and photographed by Jason Keefer Photography. This wedding is  full of fun and elegance all wrapped up in a pretty package.

This destination wedding at James Monroe’s Ash Lawn-Highland was a perfect fit.  The couple incorporated a little bit of classic southern elegance and charm, a little whimsy, DIY and splashes of color.

The couple utilized several of James Monroe’s lush and beautiful tucked away gardens for their first look, ceremony and lawn games.

Flowers consisted of white roses and white calla lilies which were a perfect example of southern elegance and grace and had colorful lanterns hanging in the reception area. lawn games such as bocce ball and horse shoes were provided along with our photobooth and Polaroids!

Plan the Perfect Backyard Wedding

backyard wedding ideas

For those brides that envision their big day taking place in a warm, private, welcoming setting, they may need to look no further than their own backyard. With the ability to rent a private estate or other private property for your wedding, you can bring the idea of a backyard wedding to life, even if your own backyard is not property suited to host your guest count or convey your chosen wedding style. Read on to discover some of our best tips on how to make your backyard wedding a success.

Add Charm to Organic Elements

backyard wedding ideas

By adding thoughtful details to trees, landscaping, and other outdoor settings, you can elevate your wedding’s aesthetic and theme. Hang chandeliers, flowers, candles, crystals, or framed photos from trees. Trim pathways with shepherd’s hooks holding flowers and candles. Hang flower buds from a patio cover. The options for adding details are truly endless, so don’t be afraid to let your creativity run wild!

Add Personal Touches

By adding personal touches, such as family photos and meaningful keepsakes,  you can transform any estate or venue into a space that feels like home. Aside from placing personal items on dining or cocktail tables, you can also also replace existing items with personal ones. For example, if your venue has a collection of photos or decor that does not speak to your vision, replace them with framed engagement photos or wedding photos from your parents or grandparents.

Feature Romantic Lighting

Feature Romantic Lighting

Nothing compliments a backyard or garden setting better than soft candlelight, market lighting, or chandeliers. Market Lighting is a great way to light large areas of space for a reasonable price while adding a charm that compliments almost any event theme.

Utilize Various Locations Around Your Property

With the amazing flexibility of a home or estate, you have the ability to use different locations for the different events of your wedding, rather than being confined to one ballroom. By utilizing different locations, your guests will feel as though they have fully experienced and explored your venue.

Modern Mansion Weddings

When choosing an estate location for your wedding, there are an endless amount of options, each unique in their own way. Although rustic ranch weddings and romantic garden weddings have been extremely popular with such blogs as Style Me Pretty and Green Wedding Shoes, you may also want to entertain the option of a chic and contemporary modern mansion wedding.  Take a look below to see some of our top pics and tips for a wedding at a modern mansion.

Let your Modern Mansion’s Architecture Inspire Your Wedding Aesthetic

After selecting a unique estate wedding location, it is important to begin to create an experience for your wedding guests.  Take in the architecture of your estate, including the location’s surroundings, colors, and exterior elements to inspire your event theme and decor.  By nodding to the estate’s architecture, your guests will enjoy your wedding celebration in a harmonious environment.

Above is the Glass House Estate in Palm Springs, California. This estate’s architecture and interior design illustrate the true essence of palm springs: modern architecture, bold and bright colors, and a focus-drawing aqua blue pool. To create a true modern Palm Springs wedding, highlight the bold colors and contemporary style, as is shown in this Modern Wedding from Wedding Chicks.

Choose Chic & Modern Apparel for your Wedding Party

Although there is a certain charm to an antiqued lace wedding dress or a full three-piece suit for men, it is important to keep the wedding apparel clean & chic to complement you entire wedding theme. Try to harness fashion forward or retro vintage trends, chic lines, and a specific color palate for your event. If you have chosen bold colors for your wedding or a location that is modern and contemporary, try to keep this all in mind when selecting each item of the bridal party’s apparel.

Don’t Be Afraid to Add Personal Touches

Modern Mansions can be the perfect blank slate for many event themes, but they can quickly transition to “too simple” or “devoid of warmth” if you do not add personal touches into the wedding decor. Clean lines, furnishings, and decor or fabulous, but they can also occasionally look generic, so don’t be afraid to add personal touches, such as framed black and white family photos, nods to your history as a couple, or elements that reflect you as a couple. These touches will not only warm the space with personality, but will make sure that your wedding is uniquely you.

Tips for Planning the Perfect Mansion Wedding

If you choose a mansion or an elaborate historic home as your wedding venue, your guests are truly in for a treat. In addition to the wow-factor that a mansion wedding brings, there are many opportunities to make your ceremony and reception completely unique. We have compiled some great tips to make the most of your mansion location for your big day.

Highlight the Mansion’s Architecture

With such beautiful features, such as columns, balconies, and elaborate staircases, the addition of even simple event lighting can make a huge difference. For example, by utilizing up-lighting at your mansion wedding, you can add visual interest, color, and create an energetic background for your ceremony or reception.

Let the Mansion’s Surroundings Inspire Your Wedding Flowers

By using your wedding venue as your inspiration for your wedding flowers and centerpieces, your thoughtful observations will only enhance the mansion’s beauty and your guests’ experience. If your mansion is set near a forest or foothills, incorporate wild flowers, twigs, feathers, or other organic elements into your floral arrangements.  If your venue is near a field of flowers that will be in full bloom for your wedding, incorporate that flower or color into your event decor. The possibilities are endless, so be sure to take in every detail of your mansion and the mansion’s surroundings.

Use Your Mansion’s History to Find Your Wedding Theme

Instead of choosing a theme inspired by a color palate, why not delve into your mansion’s history to inspire your big day? If your mansion was built in the 20′s, include vintage 1920′s accents, a la the Great Gatsby. Play a few jazz songs from the era, serve a signature cocktail in a tea cup (to remind your guests of the Prohibition Era), or rent on old vintage Model-T for your getaway at the end of the evening. You could even include an insert about the mansion’s history in your wedding program. By giving a nod to your venue’s history, your guests will feel that they have not only attended a beautiful wedding, but have taken a journey back in time.

Below we have listed a few of our favorite mansion wedding locations. Take a look if you are still perfect for that perfection mansion location for your wedding or other event:

Top Five Wedding Styling Tips for 2012 by Couture Events

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Krystel, owner of Couture Events! I am a wedding stylist, designer, and coordinator.  I am so honored to be a guest blogger for Estate Weddings and Events. Each month I will be sharing the latest tips, trends, styles, and wedding ideas with you!

Many of our clients come to us for styling advice and as we start out the new year we thought it might be best to share with you our top styling tips for 2012

Couture’s Top Five Wedding Styling Tips for 2012

 1. Bohemian is Beautiful

Kate Moss proved this with her gorgeous bohemian styled wedding attire. She has set the trend for 2012 as we see many of our brides asking for light, soft, and airy accents along with sheer, barely there fabrics and delicate details. Some of our favorite elements from Kate’s wedding are her Juliet cap veil and the white flower garland headpieces on the bridal party, so boho chic.

 2. Muted Colors are IN!

Nudes and blushes for everything including wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, florals, and makeup. Yes, you heard us, this year we are seeing more colored wedding gowns in muted tones. We are also seeing many brides choosing muted bridesmaid dresses, a nude wedding lip, and going with soft blush and cream florals.

*Tip: If you decide on a muted color gown, DO NOT choose muted or nude bridesmaid dresses as this will only wash everyone out. Remember you want to stand out on your special day, no matter if it is white or a beautiful blush.

 3. Lighting is Everything

Lighting is the single best way to transform any venue from ordinary to extraordinary! In 2012 creative lighting will take precedence in the wedding decor and budget. We will be seeing more chandeliers, up-lighting, gobos, market lights, and candles, all of which help create an incredible ambiance for your guests to enjoy.

 4. Glam is Back

While we have had so much fun with the rustic styling, we see that Glam is coming back and we couldn’t be more excited.  Whether iconic black & white, gold and silver accents, or just the sparkle (crystals, rhinestones, glitter, and shimmer), we are seeing many brides bring some bling into their wedding. Every detail is becoming more glamorous in both vintage and modern wedding themes, brides are embracing the GLAM look.

 5. Long Banquet Tables are Luxurious

We will be seeing many long rectangle tables with pretty runners and assorted sized centerpieces. Round is out, brides no longer want just one centerpiece, they want assortments of bottles, vases, candles, and florals at all different heights to entertain the eye and bring dimension to the tables. They also like the idea of family style banquet tables, creating a more intimate feel.

Engagement Season is in the Air

December– how is it that you manage to bring the greatest feeling of warmth during the start of the coldest season of the year?  Most would say that it is the  joyful spark of love and merriment that grows throughout these 31 days littered with friends, family, lovers and engagements!

The weeks between these winter holidays and Valentine’s Day (every wedding blogger’s favorite celebration)  boast the greatest number of wedding engagements throughout the year. It isn’t just that extra mug of eggnog that’s making us all bright eyed and rosy-cheeked–  Love is in the air!

With newly engaged couples anxious to begin the planning process, we’ve gathered a few helpful reminders to keep the holiday craziness limited to last minute shopping (rather than your engagement):

Give Yourself Time.

Any husband or wife will tell you, planning well in advance is the key to keeping calm and enjoying the beauty of your pending celebration.

Start with the Venue.

While there are guests to tally, centerpieces to craft, invites to send out, where would any of this be without the perfect venue? Make a day of it and venture out to any one of our beautiful California estates to grab your ideal date and allow time for all of the extras!  Gather your friends, your parents, your fiance, or anyone riding the holiday wave and take some time to browse our properties. We promise, once you’re in the presence of your perfect venue, the rest will fall into place.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help.

When spending time with family over the Holidays, ask for feedback on potential venues or ideas you may have. By including those who hold a special place in your heart, not only will you get a better idea of what your guests may enjoy, but they will feel joyed that you have included them in your journey from “I Will”  to “I Do.”
